As reported Sunday at News Center 7 and 6:00The First Lutheran Church held its last service after nearly 200 years in Dayton.

It sits at the corner of First and Wilkinson Streets, but will no longer remain open, as News Center 7 previously reported.

BELIEVABLE STORIES:

News Center 7’s Malik Patterson spoke with church leaders about the closing of First Lutheran Church. It was one of the first churches in Dayton. It has been around for 185 years.

The Sunday service was different from the normal service.

The head of Southwest Ohio’s Lutheran Church’s Bishop gave a sermon on Sunday.

Patterson said the church lost its minister in 2022. Members also stopped going and changes had to be made.

200 people attended the service at First Lutheran Church. Most of them were people who had never been to church before.

But they wanted to see the historic church for the first and last time.

News Center 7 spoke with a man who hopes the church will be preserved and not destroyed.

“I don’t want to see it being torn down in public. So, if it becomes a place of events, I don’t care to be honest. I just want to see it stay. Ionei was raised because it is good,” said Conner Fazzari.

Patterson says the church council and the Lutheran bishop should determine who to sell it to.

They want to sell it to another church, but it will make millions.

We will fix this issue.
