NL: Mexico takes on Honduras; Canada beat Suriname

The CONCACAF Nations League knockout rounds continue tonight as giants Canada and Mexico look to book their places in the last four.

Here’s what went down.

Mexico 4:0 Honduras

Scorers: Jiménez 42′, Martín 72′, 90+7′ (P), Sánchez 78′

Mexico came back to erase a two-goal deficit on aggregate and secure a place in the semi-finals.

El Tri’s frustration from the first leg seemed to carry over into the second as they struggled to be clinical in front of goal, but the bar finally broke just before the break thanks to a Raúl Jiménez goal that sent the home side flying.

While it took some time to find the second, it finally did when Henry Martín headed home a deflected cross to level the score on aggregate in the second half.

But he finally won the tie before the full-time whistle, thanks to Jorge Sánchez’s sensitive control and finish at the back post, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

Henry Martín’s late penalty was the icing on the cake for the Mexicans, securing El Trio’s place in the last four.

Canada 3:0 Suriname

Shooters: David 23′, Schaffelburg 30′, 67′

Canada booked their trip with a comfortable win in the second game against Suriname in Toronto.

Two goals in seven minutes from Jonathan David and Jacob Shaffelburg before half an hour saw Jesse Marsch run away and they never looked back.

While they may have felt they should have found the net a few more times, Shaffelburg continued his hot streak with his second goal of the night to put the home side out of sight and secure his first ever international boost.
